Grand Gesture Aids Lofthouse Education Programme

The Ann Maguire Arts Education Fund, a special Fund created through donations in memory of Ann Maguire, a school teacher from Leeds who was well-loved and respected but who tragically died in April 2014, has awarded a £1,000 grant to Lofthouse Brass Band, to allow the band to run a repeat of it’s successful Brassed On programme which allows local schoolchildren who would not normally have the opportunity to participate and perform brass music.

Working alongside talented musician James Stretton, Lofthouse Band’s education programme brings brass music into approximately 10 local schools over a 5 day period. The programme will engage students in brass music through a series of interactive and educational workshops. The students will learn about various instruments with plenty of opportunities to perform, culminating in a Saturday morning performance alongside Lofthouse Brass Band.

Speaking about the grant, Andrew Whitaker, Musical Director, told A4B: ‘We’re delighted to receive funding from the Ann Maguire Fund as it supports our mission to encourage people to explore brass music and see at first hand the work of Lofthouse Brass Band. The wonderful thing about this grant is that it allows us to run a series of workshops in schools which will provide young people with the opportunity to explore the music of brass band’s.’

Any schools wishing to take part in the workshops should contact the band on 07876 800929 or email [email protected]
