Double Anniversary Celebrations for Kidlington & Oxford

Kidlington Concert Brass are calling on all previous associates of Oxford Concert Brass and Kidlington Silver Band for big anniversary celebrations, taking place in July.

2017 marks the 25th anniversary of Kidlington Concert Brass, formed by the merger of Oxford Concert Brass and Kidlington Silver Band in 1992 when both bands were struggling for players. This is a double celebration, as it is also 125 years since the original Kidlington Silver Band was formed, although there is evidence of an earlier band in the village.

A spokesperson for the band told A4B: ‘To mark the occasion we have organised an Anniversary Concert on the 16th July in Exeter Hall, Kidlington OX5 1AB at 7pm. We would like to reach out to any ex-members of either band, or indeed anybody who has had connections with the organisation over the years, not only to invite them to this celebration concert but to get in touch (details below) if they have any old photographs or memorabilia we can add to a display we are putting together. We hope that enough ex-players/hangers-on will be willing to attend this FREE concert and bring an instrument for a massed blow at the end!’

The band will perform a concert of band favourites under Professional MD Duncan Wilson, but we also welcome ex-MD’s Catherine Underwood and Jeremy Wise to conduct some items and give their memories of the band.

This should be a memorable occasion in a year that has seen the band win the L&SC 1st section and gain promotion back to the Championship section.

All photos, memorabilia, stories to committee member Dave Taylor, who will also coordinate the massed blow. All those wishing to play, please let Dave know so we can ensure there are enough music stands and chairs available.
