Experience Counts For New Blidworth Principal Signing

Blidworth Welfare Band are delighted to announce the signing of experienced cornet player, John McMurran as their new Principal Cornet.

John’s first experience of brass playing was in the Boy’s Brigade in Belfast, and he was Principal Cornet with the 55th Old Boys’ Band and Templemore Band before moving abroad with work in 1997.

After a break from banding he was a founder member of the Singapore Brass Society Band and then of Lion City Brass Band where he served as Principal Cornet until returning to the UK in early 2018. While in Singapore, John also performed with the Desford Colliery Band during their 2011 Asian Tour.

Musical Director, Simon Oates told A4B: “We are delighted to sign such a quality player as John in the end chair. We kept the seat vacant until the right candidate came along and have been impressed not only with his playing ability and tonal quality but also instantly leading the section. I look forward to working together and producing some great music with John and welcome him to the band”.
