New Works on Show At Bolsover Summer School

The Bolsover International Brass Band Summer School Finale Concert being staged on Friday 27th July at Heritage High School Clowne, will premiere a newly commissioned Concert March from the pen of Gavin Somerset entitled Bolsover Castle.

The March is a tribute to Dave Morris who was a valued member of the Bolsover International Brass Band Summer School and Festival of Brass team who sadly passed away suddenly last October 2017. Dave will be greatly missed and Carole Hirst thought it would be a fitting tribute to Dave, in recognition of his contribution to the growing success of the Bolsover Course. Carole asked Gavin to write the commission as Dave and Gavin were good friends.

The concert will also include Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s recent work ‘The Forces Unleashed’, as well as William Himes newly commissioned ‘Intrepid Overture’ which received widespread critical acclaim following its premiere by Black Dyke at their recent Lincoln Cathedral concert.

Other works include ‘Innuendo’, ‘The Saga of Haakon the Good’, ‘Mountain Song’, ‘Praise’, ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘ORB’ and solos from tutors Mark Wilkinson, Rebecca Lundberg and Steven himself.

The concert will be staged at 6.45pm at Heritage High School, Clowne on Friday 27th July 2018. Tickets are FREE.
