New MD Appointed At South Yorkshire Police

The South Yorkshire Police Band is delighted to announce the appointment of its new musical director, Jack Capstaff.

Jack originates from York and is soon to graduate from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where he will be awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Composition and Conducting. His passion has always been conducting, which he has been doing since the age of 15, and he has already taken bands to contests and concerts nationwide.

As a conductor, Jack has led a number of orchestras, ensembles and brass bands, including Foresters Brass in Leicestershire and the Shepherd Group Band in York; and as a cornet player he has performed with some of the country’s best brass bands such as Yorkshire Imps and Carlton Main Frickley Colliery.

Jack admitted that when he heard the SYP Band were recruiting, he jumped at the chance to become MD. He told A4B, “I am very proud to have the opportunity to represent South Yorkshire Police by directing such a warm, friendly and committed band. I look forward to many exciting years at the helm”.
