Bradwell Delight In New Principal

Bradwell Silver Band is delighted to welcome David Wilson as the new Principal Cornet effective from 1st January 2017. Former Principal Julia Hollis takes over from Adam Chappell in the Soprano seat with Adam moving to join the front row as Assistant Principal to David.

David (Tug) is an extremely experienced musician having started his playing career with Bradwell Silver Band. David spent 6 years with The Band of the Blues and Royals, Household Cavalry and participated in prestigious events such as Trooping the Colour, The Lord Mayors Show and The Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at The Royal Albert Hall to name just a few.

All of the Wilson family including wife Karen, sons Luke, Jack and Louis play brass instruments having started their careers with Bradwell and all but one are current members of the band. David returns to Bradwell after 12 years as Principal Cornet for Olney Brass (previously Stantonbury Brass).

David told A4B: “I’m looking forward to re-joining the band that I started with many years ago and once again playing for my own local community being a Brad’ll boy at heart. It will be great to work with Brian again and form musical partnerships with the new members of the band.”

Julia is looking forward to re-visiting the Soprano seat having vacated it two years ago to take up the challenge of Principal Cornet. We thank Julia for her commitment and hard work, and recently leading the Band to place 4th at the LBBA contest in November. Adam, 16, is looking forward to the new challenge and taking advantage of David’s experience to further develop his own talents as a solo cornet player.

Musical Director Brian Keech told A4B: “David has been a member of our band or a guest player for over 40 years, so we are therefore so pleased to welcome him back as our Principal Cornet. David is a fantastic player who will add so much quality and leadership to our young band”

David’s first challenge will be when the band returns to Stevenage in March to participate in the L&SC Regional Contest.
