Death of Keith Fairburn Announced

It is with great sadness that the Kippax Band announce the death of Keith Fairburn. Keith passed away in St. James’ Hospital Leeds, after a short illness linked to ongoing health issues. It is especially poignant that Keith had decided not to stand for re-election as Band Secretary this year due to his deteriorating health, and his last formal day in office was the day that he died.

Keith is known throughout the banding community not only for being an exceptional bass trombone player, but his industrious allegiance to a single band for close to six decades. He is survived by his wife Aileen, whose commitment to Kippax Band is equally legendary, and their two sons, Lee and Dean, current and former players respectively.

Band Chairman Colin Moss told A4B: “Kippax Band are devastated by Keith’s death. Our thoughts are with Aileen, Lee, Dean and all the family. Keith’s tireless dedication iswoven throughout the very fabric of our institution, and his impact on the band can never be underestimated. We can only honour him by recognising his legacy in all our future successes.”

Kippax Band will announce funeral arrangements in due course, but in the meantime, ask that you direct any band queries in the first instance to Rob Lovatt, Acting Band Secretary on 07933 540 857, or Colin Moss, Band Chairman at [email protected]
