Alex Parker To Take The Worsbrough Reins

Worsbrough Brass Band are excited to finally announce that Dr Alex Parker has been appointed as their new MD after a rigorous audition process.

The band have had an enormously successful 10 years under the guidance of John Hopkinson, leading to the band’s current position at the top of the Yorkshire 2nd section. Whilst the band are sad to see John move on to pastures new, they wish him the absolute best in his future endeavors with his variety of other musical interests.

Dr. Parker is better known in the banding world as “Parky”, from his work with Brass for Africa, UniBrass and is currently Partnership Development Officer at Brass Bands England. He will also be continuing his role as MD at Stockport Silver Band.

Alex will be helping the band prepare for 2019’s Yorkshire Regionals with the aim of being promoted into the 1st section, as well as preparing the bands usual summer concert programme and working with the band on a few exciting new projects.

Speaking about the appointment, Alex told A4B: “I’m really looking forward to working with Worsbrough. It’s an exciting time for the band as they seek to improve upon a really solid foundation whilst retaining a friendly atmosphere. I’m looking forward to getting out there and performing with such a talented and enthusiastic group!”
