AoBBA and Hammonds Test Piece Preview Partnership

The Association of Brass Band Adjudicators and Hammonds Band have partnered their second test piece preview night and look forward to a further three partnership previews prior to the Spring Festival, British Open and lower section National Finals.

David Hirst told A4B: “AoBBA have traditionally organised their own preview evenings in the past but are delighted that we are now working closely with Hammonds Band to develop the concept over a number of events”.

The test piece preview events aims to give constructive feedback to bands from each section from an AoBBA adjudicator before each forthcoming contests.

The first joint event for this year featured three bands performed on Saturday 23rd February to AoBBA secretary, Nicholas Garman. Huddersfield and Rippon band represented the third section, Lindley the first section and Hammonds band as hosts, the championship section.  The event was very well attended.

Nicholas gave written feedback to each band and spent time with each conductor talking through the performance and possible areas of focus for rehearsal in the week leading up to the contest.

Nicholas told A4B: “A public performance of a test piece is worth several rehearsals as it replicates, to some extent, the pressures players will face on the contest stage”.
