Prof. Nick Childs to Lead NASUWT Riverside to Grand Shield

After their second consecutive win at the North of England area championships NASUWT Riverside Band are busy rehearsing The Triumph of Time for the Grand Shield contest on 12 May 2018.

Due to a prior commitment in Germany, with his own band, Rothwell Temperance, Dave Roberts is unable to conduct the band at this contest. The band has however been fortunate to secure the services of Professor Nicholas Childs for this prestigious competition.

Prof. Nicholas Childs told A4B: “The Riverside Band, led by Tony Thompson, are a really hard working group with some great personalities. I would like to take this opportunity of thanking Dave Roberts for preparing the piece and we are all looking forward to the Grand Shield.

The band is really enjoying working with Nick on what is a really challenging test piece and hope to better their 4th place at this contest last year.

Tony Thompson, Band Manager of the NASUWT Riverside Band told A4B:  ‘We have been very fortunate to have been able to secure the services of Nicholas Childs.  He has so much experience and expertise which will provide major benefits to the band, particularly relating to The Triumph of Time, which was written for the Black Dyke Band.’
